The Effect of PCA on Dermal Tissue Renewal
No Jae-Kyun

Abstract
In the present study, using dermal cells, the effects of PCA(protocatechuic aldehyde) were investigated on the migration of fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Fibroblast migration takes an important role in the dermal tissue renewal. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the protective effects of phenolic compound, PCA. Experimentations were carried out fibroblasts to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying the efficacy of the PCA against oxidative stress. And the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts subsequently increase collagen production. Migration of endothelial cells and development of new capillary vessels are related to skin renewal. To examine the effects of PCA on dermal tissue renewal, the migration of fibroblast and endothelial cell was determined by Westrn blot with examining ERK1/2 MAPK signaling pathway in fibroblasts. The results strongly indicated that PCA-induced endothelial migration is mediated by MAPK pathway. In conclusion, PCA had a potential as an active ingredients for skin treatments.
